Hack4AIV : 11 to 17 July 2023

Hack4AIV is the first national hackathon sponsored by the Accademia Italiana di Videogiochi (AIV) and Edutech District, scheduled from 11 to 17 July 2023, lasting 138 hours.

The event, for teams, will be open to all AIV students and will be a game jam in which students will work together to develop a game concept, create characters, design settings and much more.

The goal is to provide students with an opportunity to experiment with new ideas, test their skills, learn from other participants and create games collaboratively.

What is a Game Jam?

A game jam is an event where participants try to create a video game from scratch in a limited time. This time constraint is intended to simulate a pressing a deadline and encouraging creativity among the ideas produced.

The term game jam is a compound of the words “game” and “jam session”. A jam session describes the musical act of making music by improvising in an attempt to develop new material or just to practice. Similarly, game jams are events where game developers meet and prototype experimental ideas into playable games.

A game jam usually has a theme, which is only announced at the beginning of the event and which all developed games must adhere to. The presence of a theme has a double function: on one hand, it discourages participants from planning ahead and using
previously developed material, on the other hand places a further limitation on the developers which encourages their creativity.

About the problem:

The hackathon will be presented to students during the courses but the theme of the challenge will be announced only the day before the event!

The theme will be announced shortly before the start of the jam to discourages participants from planning ahead and using
previously developed material
